چکیده

Floquet engineering is the concept of tailoring a system by periodic drive, and it increasingly employed in many areas physics. Ultracold atoms optical lattices offer particularly large toolbox to design variety driving schemes. A strong motivation for developing these methods prospect study interplay between topology interactions where both ingredients are fully tunable. We review recent successes realizing new classes Hamiltonians quantum gases, such as including artificial gauge fields, topological band structures density-dependent tunnelling. The creation periodically driven systems also gives rise phenomena without static counterparts anomalous insulators. discuss challenges facing field, control heating mechanisms, which currently limit preparation many-body phases, well potential future developments obstacles overcome. freedom manipulate gases with external fields makes them an ideal platform studying using time-periodic modulations has greatly expanded range accessible models phenomena.

Floquet topological insulator in semiconductor quantum wells

Topological phases of matter have captured our imagination over the past few years, with tantalizing properties such as robust edge modes and exotic non-Abelian excitations, and potential applications ranging from semiconductor spintronics to topological quantum computation. Despite recent advancements in the field, our ability to control topological transitions remains limited, and usually req...

Low dimensional quantum gases

In 2005, we have made further progress in the studies of atom correlations in one-dimensional (1D) Bose gases [1]. We have calculated the density profiles and density correlation functions of a harmonically trapped (nonuniform) 1D Bose gas, using the exact finite-temperature solutions for the uniform case and applying a local density approximation. The results are valid for a trapping potential...

Harmonically Trapped Quantum Gases

We solve the problem of a Bose or Fermi gas in d-dimensions trapped by δ ≤ d mutually perpendicular harmonic oscillator potentials. From the grand potential we derive their thermodynamic functions (internal energy, specific heat, etc.) as well as a generalized density of states. The Bose gas exhibits Bose-Einstein condensation at a nonzero critical temperature Tc if and only if d+ δ > 2, and a ...

1. Apparatus for studying Fermi-Fermi-Bose mixtures in optical lattices We have completed the assembly of a new apparatus that can simultaneously cool and trap two different fermionic species, Li and K, as well as K. The cold atom sources are also able to provide Rb and Na in the future. One major interest lies in the creation of heteronuclear, stable ground-state molecules that carry a strong ...
